Future Orders Tab
You can use this tab to reschedule, move, or cancel future orders that have become disconnected from their appointments.
In the Clinical Inbox, click the linked number in the Encounters column to display the list of encounters. Click an encounter in SCHEDULE status, marked "action required."
Note: Encounters in SCHEDULE status are visible only on the Clinician home page. If front office staff assists with rescheduling future orders, they must first switch to the Clinician home page.
Your practice must use athenaClinicals, and you must have permission to update orders.
- In the grid view of the Clinical Inbox, click the linked number in the Encounters column to display the list of encounters.
- Select an encounter in SCHEDULE status with a task description of "Encounter - action required."
The Future Orders tab appears. - On the Future Orders tab, click Schedule and schedule a new appointment as you normally would. The order is tied to the appointment automatically, and the encounter is no longer in SCHEDULE status.
- In the grid view of the Clinical Inbox, click the linked number in the Encounters column to display the list of encounters.
- Select an encounter in SCHEDULE status with a task description of "Encounter - action required."
The Future Orders tab appears. - On the Future Orders tab, select an appointment from the menu on the right side of the page.
- Click Save.
- In the grid view of the Clinical Inbox, click the linked number in the Encounters column to display the list of encounters.
- Select an encounter in SCHEDULE status with a task description of "Encounter - action required."
The Future Orders tab appears. - On the Future Orders tab, click the order number.
The order document opens in a new tab. - Click view actions and then select the Cancel option.
- Click Save.
You can delete pending future orders on the Future Orders tab of an encounter.
- In the grid view of the Clinical Inbox, click the linked number in the Encounters column to display the list of encounters.
- Select an encounter in SCHEDULE status with a task description of "Encounter - action required."
The Future Orders tab appears. Orders in PEND status have a delete icon to the right of the order. - Click the delete icon next to a pending order to delete it.
- Click Save.
- Dr. John Smith, a provider, wants his patient to return to the office for a blood test in 3 weeks.
- During checkout, the patient schedules an appointment for 3 weeks from today.
- The next day, the patient realizes that he has a conflict and cancels the appointment without rescheduling.
- Because the blood test order is no longer tied to a future appointment, athenaOne automatically moves the encounter to SCHEDULE status.
- While viewing his Inbox, Dr. Smith notices that the appointment needs to be rescheduled.
- Practice staff contacts the patient and reschedules the appointment.
The encounter is no longer in SCHEDULE status and is cleared from the Inbox until the patient arrives for the appointment.
